Rebate schemes are available, making Exercise Physiology services more affordable
A range of rebate and funding options are available to help reduce the out of pocket cost of Exercise Physiology services, including Medicare, DVA, NDIS, private health, and WorkCover schemes. Eligibility varies depending on your individual circumstances and referral type. These options are outlined in more detail below.
Medicare
If you have a diagnosed chronic health condition which you have had longer than three months, you are eligible for up to five subsidised Exercise Physiology sessions per year. Rebates are available for clients referred by their GP under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. You can receive up to five rebated sessions per calendar year (Item 10953).
NDIS
Exercise Physiology can be funded under the NDIS for both self-managed and plan-managed participants. Services can assist with strength, mobility, balance, independence, and daily living skills. Exercise Physiology services use the 'improved health & well-being' and 'improved daily living' categories.
Private Health Insurance
Many private health funds offer rebates for Exercise Physiology under Extras or Allied Health cover. The amount and eligibility vary by provider and policy — check with your insurer for details.
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)
Eligible DVA Gold and White Card holders can access Exercise Physiology services with a valid referral from their GP or specialist at no out-of-pocket cost. Referrals last for 12 months, or 12 sessions depending on which occurs first. Referrals for members with Total Permanent Injury (TPI) last 12 months regardless of how many sessions they have over that period.
Workers Compensation
If your injury occurred at work or through a motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible for funded Exercise Physiology sessions as part of your rehabilitation. Ramsden Rehab + Conditioning has extensive experience in treating workplace injuries.
